How can validated technologies be transformed into investment-ready and sustainable industrial enterprises?

It Started with Industry

My professional journey began in the real world of entrepreneurship, investment and industry.

Over the years, I have been involved in building and developing businesses where decisions are shaped by the realities of capital, manufacturing, markets, people and execution.

Working across industrial investment and manufacturing taught me an important lesson:

An idea creates industrial value only when it can be built, organized, financed and sustained in the real world.

Entering Deep Technology

My work increasingly brought me into contact with technologies involving micro- and nanotechnology, microfabrication, MEMS, AFM and medical technologies.

Some of these technologies had years of scientific research behind them.

Prototypes existed.

Technical validation existed.

In some cases, significant technological maturity had already been achieved.

The natural assumption was that once a technology had been technically proven, its path toward industrialization should become relatively clear.

In practice, I repeatedly discovered that this was not necessarily the case.

Proven Technology Is Not Yet an Industrial Investment

Across different projects, I began to recognize a recurring pattern.

The science could exist.

The technology could work.

Technical validation could be achieved.

Potential markets could exist.

Potential investors could even exist.

And yet, a significant distance could remain between a validated technology and an industrial opportunity on which an investment decision could reasonably be made.

The challenge was no longer purely technological.

Different questions began to emerge:

Who is responsible for integrating all of these elements?

Building an Institutional Bridge

OAK Foundation emerged from this problem.

It was not conceived as another venture capital fund, accelerator, incubator or manufacturing company.

The idea was different.

It was to explore and build the institutional capacity required between validated science and sustainable industry.

Scientists and technology originators need an environment in which their knowledge, technology and rights can be properly structured.

Investors need sufficient evidence, governance and organizational clarity to make informed industrial investment decisions.

Operational companies need the capabilities required to transform technology into industrial activity.

Between these actors, there needs to be an architecture capable of bringing together technology, evidence, governance, ownership, industrial capabilities and investment.

For me, therefore, OAK is not the beginning of the story.

It is one of the consequences of a problem I first encountered in the real world of industry and technology.

Turning a Practical Problem into a Research Question

But an important question remained.

Was the pattern I had observed specific to my own businesses and technology projects?

Or was it part of a broader problem in the commercialization and industrialization of science-based technologies?

Professional experience alone could not answer that question.

This is where my entrepreneurial journey and academic research converged.

As a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Candidate at the Faculty of Management, University of Tehran, I began studying the transition of science-based technologies from scientific and technical validation toward readiness for industrial investment decision-making.

The distinction is important.

My research is not intended to prove OAK.

Nor should OAK be treated as evidence that a general theory is correct.

The research question must be investigated independently and systematically.

OAK can instead serve as a reference implementation environment in which insights emerging from research may ultimately interact with real-world practice.
