The most difficult part of innovation often begins after the science works.

A technology may be scientifically validated. A prototype may perform exactly as expected. A pilot may confirm that the underlying concept works.

But none of these, by themselves, answer the question an industrial investor ultimately needs to ask:

Can this technology become a viable industrial operation?

At that point, the questions change.

Can the process be scaled without losing performance or consistency?

What happens to unit economics at industrial scale?

How much capital is actually required to reach commercial production?

Which technical assumptions remain unresolved?

Is the supply chain reliable?

Who owns the IP, who carries the execution risk, and who is accountable when assumptions fail?

These questions belong to a different stage of the journey.

The laboratory reduces scientific uncertainty.

Industrialization must reduce investment uncertainty.

And the two should not be confused.

This is one of the issues I have been examining closely through both my industrial experience and my DBA research.

I increasingly believe that many promising technologies do not fail because the science is weak.

They become stuck because the transition from validated science to an investable industrial project has not been properly designed.

Capital alone cannot resolve that transition.

What is needed is a structured process for converting scientific and technical evidence into the technical, commercial, financial and governance evidence required for an industrial investment decision.

That raises a question I would particularly like to hear different perspectives on:

Where have you seen the greater challenge — proving that a technology works, or turning a proven technology into an investable industrial project?
